This exchange describes re-usable templates for bridge components which may be incorporated into models of specific bridges and used in downstream exchanges such as the Design Plans exchange described herein.

Tthis exchange may also be used to define tabular data formats to be used for plans and specifications making use of such templates. As conventions may vary with each agency, such translation is captured in an exchange, which allows for standardized presentation of bridge information to evolve independently of the underlying data. While from a pure information modeling perspective, formatting may be considered superfluous, it is foreseen as critical for parties transitioning between tabular formats in use today with all-digital formats. It defines standardized conventions for transforming model data into familiar formats.
